Background to Production:

Started life as a short story for radio, under different title broadcast, and in 1952. The title we now know added as “A Play for Voices” Thomas recited it (whilst still in development), May 1953 at the Poet’s Theatre, in New York, first complete reading was Oct. 1953. Thomas took 2 parts and a cast of “Guest” Americans took the other roles.
